Elnaz Hajtamiri: Yet another suspect arrested, though missing woman’s case remains unsolved
Police remain baffled as to the whereabouts of Elnaz Hajtamiri despite CBC reporting that they have arrested a seventh person in connection with the case.
Jaspreet Singh, 24, was arrested in Surrey, British Columbia on April 14, 2023, in connection with an attack on Elnaz on Dec. 20, 2021, during which three men ambushed the woman with frying pans in her garage, CBC says. A witness intervened and the men fled. Elnaz, shaken by the assault, went to stay with relatives until Jan. 12, 2022.
That evening, police say, three men wearing police uniforms dragged her from her relative’s home in Wasaga Beach, out into the snow, put her into a vehicle, and drove away, and she hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Seven people have been connected to the case. Six, including Elnaz’s ex-boyfriend, Mohamad Lilo, were previously arrested before Jaspreet. CBC notes that Jaspreet has been charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. He was transported back to York, Ontario to face the charges.
One suspect remains at large with a Canada-wide warrant hanging over his head. CTV reports that Sukhpreet Singh, 23, from Mississuaga, Ontario, is urged by police to turn himself in. Det. Sgt. Jason Dinsmore with the York Regional Police (YRP) previously said that Jaspreet and Sukhpreet (no relation to each other) were “co-conspirators” who were directly involved in planning and carrying out the garage ambush.
Deshawn Davis, a 35-year-old man from Toronto, Ontario, is also wanted in connection with the kidnapping, along with a still unidentified suspect.
Police also remind the public that anyone who is caught helping any of the suspects hide or flee could also face criminal charges, CP24 reports.
CTV reported on April 21, 2023 that a resident discovered human remains near a steep hill on the corner of Georgian Drive, roughly a kilometer from Penetanguishene Road. However, police aren’t linking this discovery to Elnaz’s case.
Police believe the suspects who took Elnaz drove a white, 2016 to 2022 model Lexus RX 350 SUV on the evening of the kidnapping. Anyone with information about Elnaz is asked to contact the OPP at 1–888–310–1122 or through a dedicated tip line at 1–833–728–3415.
